For young people, emerging tech offers invaluable communication, creative and educational opportunities, but it's often designed and used in ways that can be detrimental. In this workshop, we'll work with technology, youth-centred design and regulatory and rights frameworks, to face these challenges and create products and services that maximise positive impact – while prioritising safety, privacy and wellbeing.

Each day includes group discussions and exercises to break topics apart and explore, followed by short lectures that survey the industry's best (and worst) practices, frameworks and resources.

Working in small groups, you'll tackle these challenges in the context of edtech, digital play, parenting and digital and mental wellbeing.

You'll will come away with a variety of new skills, including people-centred service mapping and research sense-making, co-creation techniques for involving young people in the design process, youth-focused risk and opportunity identification and interactive prototype creation. We'll also learn how to anticipate changes to service provider workflows, policies and success metrics.

'Designing Good Tech for Youth' is part of CIID pop-up schools, which combine hands-on learning, prototyping and innovation, to bring transformative learning to people around the globe. Led by experts from CIID's extraordinary global community, these week-long courses welcome professionals and students of all backgrounds.
