Arch 201 at New York Institute of Technology
The Arch 201 course at New York Institute of Technology challenges students to design residential units, which include studios for creative individuals.
Arch 201 is the second year, first semester design studio for the Bachelor of Architecture programme at New York Institute of Technology.
The semester design project for Arch 201 is the artist house, which introduces issues of individual and collective residential dwelling, the work/live paradigms and the territories of shared community and spaces.
The focus is on the development of a residential unit that incorporates a working/studio environment for a creative individual or team within a shared community of needs and values.
Academic and architectural goals for the Architectural Design I studio are related to architectural form and space making in relation to organisation and project development based on grid, structure, programme, circulation, enclosure, materiality, site, light/solar orientation and climate conditions. These issues are understood as sources, references and interrelated co-determinants for spatial proposal, interventions and solutions.
Relevant and overlapping spatial conditions related to these project co-determinants will be evaluated and integrated in the project's comprehensive planning and organisational system.
