BSc/MDes Product Design and Technology at London South Bank University
The BSc/MDes Product Design and Technology course at London South Bank University equips students with essential product design skills, including CAD and physical prototyping.
BSc/MDes Product Design and Technology at LSBU combines creative, human-centred design with a strong technical understanding of how products work, preparing you to design innovative, responsible and commercially viable solutions for the real world.
The course begins with a shared first year focused on core technical principles, including design methods, materials, mathematics, modelling and simulation.
This builds confidence in understanding physical constraints, evaluating performance and making informed design decisions based on data and analysis, while developing skills that support collaboration across technical disciplines.
From the second year onwards, the course becomes decisively design-led and studio-based. You will work on practical design projects supported by dedicated studios and workshops, developing your expertise in creative thinking, physical prototyping, CAD and digital manufacture using our extensive facilities.
Core modules strengthen your ability to apply technical knowledge to design problems, communicate ideas professionally and build an industry-ready portfolio.
You will develop a strong grounding in product design engineering, user experience design and design for circular economy, before choosing one area to specialise in and completing a major individual design project aligned to your interests and career ambitions.
This course is ideal if you want the creative depth of product design, strengthened by technical credibility and a clear route into industry, design consultancy, entrepreneurship or postgraduate study.
