Master's Programme in Advanced Product Design at Umeå Insititute of Design

The Master's Programme in Advanced Product Design course at Umeå Insititute of Design equips students with physical and digital design skills to identify design problems and develop product solutions.

School: Umeå Insititute of Design (UID)
Course: Master's Programme in Advanced Product Design (MFA APD)
Location: Umeå, Sweden
Course dates: September 2023 to June 2025
Application deadline: 16 January 2023

This is a programme that looks boldly into the future. Guided by a philosophy to challenge what is possible, it fuses the knowledge and insights of today's hard-core product design with the possibilities that arise when applying both the physical and digital technology of tomorrow.

The result? Skilled industrial designers with the toolset and mindset needed to create, develop and design new relevant product solutions.

The MFA APD programme focuses on the advanced treatment of design through user studies, problem identification and analysis, as well as new technologies and materials.

It trains students on how to be innovative and to find unexpected answers for any given problem or identified design opportunity.

Applied design projects form the backbone of the MFA APD programme. Projects usually include lectures, field trips, user studies, workshops, group work and studio work.

Through projects carried out in collaboration with external partners, students target original problems that may address conceptualising new technology solutions for specialists to the design for upcoming consumer needs, to the design of professional tools within heavy industries.

Applications to this course have now closed.
