Dutch designer Mieke Meijer has created a bed that is merged into a pair of chairs.

Called Blend, the bed incorporates two chairs that function as night tables.

Here's more text from Mieke Meijer:
--
Blend is a fusion of a bed and chair. The chair refers to the 17th century, when people slept semi-sitting up because laying down was associated with death. The chairs now function as night tables.
Project: Blend
Year: 2009
Size: 200 cm x 200
Material: oak wood

nice. I like it very much!!!
”The chair refers to the 17th century, when people slept semi-sitting up because laying down was associated with death.”
Yeah right, very relevant concept thinking.
If you think you need some explanation like this to explain why you did what you did, I think you shouldn’t have done what you have done.
It’s cute.
Wow! It seems so natural, like something that has always existed, but somehow no one ever noticed. Really wonderful.
i tink muji iconic bed and chair combination was still the best idea of that year~
Nice to see an architectural design accompanied by (simple + legible) drawings.
is it a chair? is it a bench? NO, it’s a bed!
It could have been an idea from Richard Hutten….
hutten is smarter than this
ik vind ‘m mooi!
Like it ,Innovative stuff
Have to agree with Dork and ‘into striped light’.
This type of transformations of archetypes made Hutten famous in the nineties
He certainly saw Naoto Fukasawa’s chair and bed for Muji. But then I kinda wish I had though of this after seeing it.
so nice!
Cojonuda!!
I wish I thought of this one
SO beautiful– minimal, elegant and transformative. Why so bitter, Guido?
