Priveekollektie presents Kranen/Gille at Design Miami/Basel, June 14-19 2010

Design studio Kranen/Gille was founded by Jos Kranen (1977 Tegelen, The Netherlands) and Johannes Gille (1979 Marburg, Germany). The designers met during their education at the renowned Design Academy Eindhoven, The Netherlands. They admired each others designing skills and decided to join forces. Their work is defined by both industrial and organic elements, expressing their specific style and craftsmanship.

The bronze sculpture ‘Tesla’ lamps will be introduced at Design Miami/Basel. While developing the concept the designers were inspired by the influence of the industrial revolution on production and form. The traditional arts and crafts were put in line by the industrialization process, which unleashed an aesthetic of its own. Most forms and images which surround us and became familiar in our everyday life are mainly industrial and carry the story of a production process within. Kranen/Gille embrace this everyday language of forms and juxtaposes the arts and crafts next to industrial semantics. This resulted in a hyper industrial lighting object, which bears the form and intrinsic value of a reactor, bringing light and warmth. The ‘Tesla’ lamps are placed on a non-scale pedestal to communicate the feeling of a square on which they are positioned like guards.
