WantedDesign 2017 to showcase international design in Manhattan and Brooklyn

Trade show WantedDesign returns to New York this month with a wide-ranging programme of exhibitions, talks and events across venues in both Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Dezeen is media partner for the seventh edition of WantedDesign, which will take place between two main locations during the citywide NYCxDesign festival.

"More than ever, we wish WantedDesign to be an open platform, ideal for fostering international dialogue, connection, the free exchange of knowledge, design thinking and community building," said co-founders Odile Hainaut and Claire Pijoulat.

First to open will be the show at Brooklyn's Industry City, which welcomes the public from 17 to 23 May 2017.

The venue will host the OUI Design initiative, which aims to connect French and American designers, as well as the Outside The Box presentation of designs and crafts from across North America.

On 20 May 2017, Wanted Design Manhattan will open at the Terminal Stores venue in Chelsea and run for four days.

Here, Portland-based Studio Gorm – the winners of this year's American Design Honors, presented with Bernhardt Design – will showcase their work as part of an installation.

The Launch Pad will feature products by 40 designers and studios, spilt equally into two categories: lighting design, and other furniture and accessories. They will compete for prizes awarded by a panel of judges.

Other exhibitors in Manhattan will include design brands such as Alessi, Ligne Roset and Design Within Reach.

Spilt across both venues, the Design School Workshops brings together students from around the world to collaborate on projects based on this year's theme: Hyper Hybrid.

Participating institutions include Finland's Aalto University, Mexico's Centro, France's ENSCI Les Ateliers, and the Art Center College of Design and Pratt Institute – both in the US.

New for 2017 is the Wanted Career Day, which will allow students, recent graduates and jobseekers to meet with recruiters in the creative industries. This runs at the Brooklyn location on Wednesday 17 May.

Also debuting this year is Wanted Interiors, in Manhattan. Together with Sony Life Space UX, students at the Pratt Institute School of Design have collaborated with Rockwell Group principal Barry Richards to create a series of spaces, where visitors can interact with products on show "in a more intimate and lively way".
