Dezeen promotion: applications are now open to attend Istituto Marangoni's MA Interior Design course at its London location, which starts in October 2019.
Istituto Marangoni is looking for individuals who want to "challenge the world of interiors" to join its new 15-month design course, which has a focus on luxury interiors and new aesthetics.
Located in Shoreditch's design triangle, the institution offers students contemporary industry-and sector-specific facilities, including a material library and 3D production technology software.
As a postgraduate level course, participants are expected to have experience in design or technical project planning in order to successfully follow the course components in creative research, home decor design, professional project development, and business preparation.
The course, which includes a placement, will teach participants how to combine technical aspects in interior design of layout, material choices and technology, with contemporary decoration and design elements.
Using these skills, the students will learn how to translate the "identity" of a fashion brand, business, or individual, into a sophisticated project within the home collection sector.
"Working with different materials, participants are able to make practical and accurate design choices, considering the durability of surfaces in areas that are exposed to high usage, or simply switching materials to create various 'zones' within a space that reflects a different style or feel," said the school.
Istituto Marangoni encourages experimentation with contemporary interiors. Students will analyse current disciplines of interior design and learn how to challenge traditional design styles and take risks with innovative new proposals.
They will look at new attitudes in the industry that are evolving today, including influences in sustainability and innovative new materials and technologies.
Throughout the course, students will manage the development of complex projects, coordinating fabrics, colours, patterns and furnishings in keeping with both contemporary trends and client needs using advanced technical design skills, such as computer-aided design (CAD).
The students will work on the interior design of an array of settings, from living spaces within domestic settings to choosing furniture and styles for public spaces inside hotels and restaurants, as well as yacht interiors.
The course syllabus focuses on strengthening the working relationship between the designer and the client, as the ability to negotiate design style proposals or overcome problems requires involvement from the client in each stage of the design process.
According to the school, these communications skills will further provide a professional approach in the presentation of students' ideas to businesses and new clients.
In addition to this, a final graduation showcase event at the end of the course year gives participants the opportunity to showcase their work and build a network of contacts within the industry.
