Tal chair by Léonard Kadid for Kann Design

Dezeen Showroom: French designer Léonard Kadid has created a "radical yet subtle" flat-pack chair for Parisian furniture brand Kann Design.

The seat of the Tal chair, which comes in black or green-stained oak and light ash wood, is supported underneath by a thin metal structure.

Beyond increasing the stability of the seating design, this also helps users to connect its different structural elements into a functioning whole.

"The T aluminium profiles reinforce the plywood seat and allow the solid wooden legs to lock onto them," Kann Design explained. "This structural principle defines its entire geometry giving a radical yet subtle presence."

Metal fasteners are also integrated into the slim, curved backrest of the Tal chair, linking it to the frame and making for an easy assembly.

Kann Design is run by husband and wife duo Houssam Kanaan and Meghedi Simonian, with the studio's workshop in Lebanon headed up by Kanaan's brother Samer.

Originally founded by their father in 1958, the workshop now offers a space to collaborate with local welders, carpenters, upholsterers and weavers.
