Stax Recycled velvet by Søren Møller for Texstyle

Dezeen Showroom: Danish brand Texstyle has launched Stax Recycled, a velvet fabric made from upcycled PET bottles.

Created by Texstyle founder and creative director Søren Møller, the velvet is soft to the touch and has a tufted pile designed to suit a range of interiors.

The velvet fabric is designed for furniture upholstery

"Stax Recycled velvet is a timeless modern classic, redesigned with sustainability in mind," said Texstyle.

"Each metre of Stax Recycled brings back to the economy 0.65 kilograms of useful plastic, the equivalent to 65 500-millimetre PET bottles of water," the brand continued.

Stax Recycled velvet is made from recycled PET bottles

The plastic waste used to make the fabric is removed from the environment, then cleaned and resized into small particles.

PET particles are selected and taken to a yarn mill to be compounded into plastic pellets, which are then melted and converted into yarn.

Stax Recycled velvet is designed for furniture upholstery and is available in a wide range of colours.
