Parallel collection by Samuel Wilkinson for Deesawat

Dezeen Showroom: British designer Samuel Wilkinson collaborated with Thai timber brand Deesawat on a collection of table and benches that take a contemporary and minimal approach to teak wood furniture.

The Parallel collection came about when Wilkinson and Deesawat united to explore the theme of "less is more" applied to furniture, aiming to minimise material use while maximising function.

The Parallel collection features a table and benches made from teak wood

The furniture is made of repeated 22-by-35-millimetre planks of teak wood, which Deesawat says are generally the offcuts from other furniture production.

Planks are arranged to form both the surfaces and legs of the table and benches, creating a distinctive, architectural take on classic teak outdoor furniture.

The bench is available in two sizes

A winner of multiple awards including the FRAME Award 2022 and IF Design Award 2023, the Parallel collection is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, and the bench is available in a choice of two lengths.

Founded in 1972, Deesawat was originally a sawmill before branching into flooring design, door manufacturing and eventually creating outdoor furniture. It specialises in teak wood, which it says it sources from sustainable plantations.
