Dezeen Showroom: a wooden outer shell contains a pillowy inner seat in this chair, designed by Italian duo Lucidi Pevere for Connection, a sub-brand of furniture company Flokk.
Lucidi Pevere designed the Oko lounge chair to bring a cosy, domestic feeling to commercial interiors, and looked explicitly to the "soft, protective embrace" of a cocoon, the designers said.
"Conceptualising an empathetic design that provides a sense of comfort in lobbies, waiting rooms, lounges, airports and beyond, we gravitated towards balancing the dimensions of a cylinder and explored the intimate curve of a shell," said the studio.
The curved back panel has an elegant and sculptural presence with a mid-century character, while the inviting seat and enveloping back cushion have contemporary appeal, enhanced by the slightly bunched upholstery.
"It is our nature to consider every detail," said Paolo Lucidi. "For example, even the intentional wrinkles in the back rest indicate luxurious comfort."
The Oko chair is available in a choice of oak, wenge or black wood finishes, while the fabric options include styles from Kvadrat, Camira, Warwick and Panaz.
