Promotion: Berlin furniture brand Objekte Unserer Tage has released the Sander seating island, the flexible younger sibling of its marshmallowy sofa model, which was designed with a central backrest that can be used from both sides.
Objekte Unserer Tage (OUT) wanted to create an updated version of its Sander sofa – a low-slung, chubby model that the brand affectionately refers to as a mountain of marshmallows.
Billed as "the most relaxed sofa of all time", the ultra-soft Sander has now been transformed into a seating island in response to the steady trend for open floor plans in both residential and public settings.
The island features a similar, squidgy form as the sofa, but is differentiated by a central backrest that can be reclined against from both sides.
OUT wanted to create seating that offers "more than a piece of furniture against the wall" and allows for rooms to be considered from different perspectives.
The furniture is suitable for generous living or large retail spaces where interior designers are seeking pieces to interrupt the floor plan.
"The Sander seating island connects spaces, structures, and areas and brings people together," said the brand.
Like all of OUT's furniture pieces, the seating island is handmade in Germany and is available in local upholstery.
Alternatively, OUT accepts textile commissions from clients who would like their furniture upholstered in fabrics by major textile brands such as Kvadrat or Dedar, or bespoke materials from independent sellers.
"The Sander sofa is our most successful design," said OUT. "From the first touch to the final stitch!"
"Now, Sander can be used from both sides, transforming it into an open seating island in the middle of the room," added the brand. "It speaks to the way that many architects and interior designers are working today."
OUT was founded in 2015. Based in Berlin, the brand works exclusively with artisans across Germany, from seamstresses in the Swabian Alps to carpenters in Bavaria.
