In this week's comments update, readers are discussing The Linhay, a family house in the Somerset countryside designed by studio Charles Gillespie Architecture.

Wrapped by a concrete colonnade, the house draws on the traditional linhay – a type of agricultural barn that is local to the region, characterised by its open-fronted form.

"Love, love, love this house!"

"This had potential, nice materials, lovely site, good references, but the design doesn't work at the level of basic proportions, composition and choice of elements," wrote Griff Ryan. "The landscape design is the nicest part."

Jessie called the project "A bit of a hodgepodge of ideas," while MKE Tom wrote, "This house has many personalities, all fighting to express themselves."

Unimpressed, JZ called it "a very upper-crusty, landed gentry vibe", while David Chase Martin said, "Even the land it sits on is embarrassed."

Though some readers were disappointed by the design, others were pleased.

"It has a vernacular banality few architects are brave enough to embrace," wrote Jb. "Well done."

Sharing their appreciation, Luke McClelland said, "A well-executed, thoughtfully designed family home. Good work Charlie."

"Love, love, love this house! Columns are a great idea and I like the differences between the facades," added Z-dog. "Great strength to the building."

"They'll have to work harder"

Another story gaining attention this week was Decoy Font made by company Mixfont that layers two images together to trick contemporary artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots into misreading messages.

Readers shared their own experiences using the optical illusion font with different AI chatbots.

"Saved the pic and sent it to Google Gemini and it got it right on the first try," shared Fabian. "They'll have to work harder."

In response, RK said, "Odd. Did the same test on Gemini Flash Extended and it got it wrong. Also tried all the images on Claude and Gemini and they failed each time."

"I told Sol it was designed to trick it and it read it without any issues then explained it was a clever system but was easily defeatable by AI once it understood it needed to pay slightly more attention," said SgtZaddy. "It's the kind of trick that only works once, unfortunately."

Ironically, Chakras9 said, "Unfortunately, I also can't read it. I thought it said Happy Robot."

"What a time to be alive," said Bloibl . "We are already building defences against the thing we built."

To this, WJS replied, "That's different from the last five thousand years of making armour to defend against the weapons we also make how exactly?"

"Project of the week on Dezeen"

A project that readers could agree on was La Source Vive, a domed copper-clad concert hall in France completed by studio PCA-Stream designed "as a musical instrument".

"Project has a personality, easy to appreciate," said Marius. "However, how is the sound? With 500 seats, sound may be an issue."

Impressed, Bras Cubas wrote, "Very smart, I really like the seating and the lighting, and also the extra spaces for the technicians between the inside and outside layer."

"Looks lovely from the outside," said HP. On the same page, Design Junkie wrote, "Wow. Cool. Feels hidden away."
