Topo portable lamp by Felix Pöttinger Design Studio for Maytoni

Dezeen Showroom: Felix Pöttinger Design Studio has combined a sculptural form and portable illumination in its Topo table lamp, created for German lighting brand Maytoni.

The Topo portable lamp combines a simple cylindrical base with a tiltable, disc-shaped shade. Its translucent diffuser creates a sharp interplay of light, shadow and reflection on the form below and casts soft atmospheric light beyond.

The Topo portable lamp has a simple metal form

Portability is essential to the design of the rechargeable lamp, which was intended to look good in a variety of spaces and settings, from bedsides to shelf corners and outdoor tables.

"Topo is about creating a dialogue between light, surface and space," said Pöttinger. "Rather than treating the lamp as an isolated object, I wanted its presence to change depending on where and how it is used."

The shade is tiltable

Compact and versatile, Topo is available in a selection of four finishes with a mid-century feel: black, light blue, brown and polished metal.

It is one of two portable table lamps created by Felix Pöttinger Design Studio with Maytoni alongside the battery-powered Asym.
