Shi·Ye Architecture Design and Research Practice has designed the Cactus House in Kunming, China.

"The owner's wish [was] to create a home for a family of three, a beautiful corner that is integrated with nature and a plant paradise full of greenery," said Shi·Ye Architecture Design and Research Practice.

In order to protect the owner's desire to grow large cacti and sandy soil plants and to protect the cacti from the cold, Shi·Ye Architecture Design and Research Practice built a cactus greenhouse.

"The courtyard is the intersection of nature and life," added Shi·Ye.

In order to change the independent state of the courtyard and the interior, the architects opened up the building on all sides to allow the courtyard, surface and internal space to infiltrate each other.

This project has been shortlisted in the residential project category of Dezeen Awards China 2023.
