The University of Hong Kong, along with Lidia Ratoi and John Lin, have designed the Traditional House of the Future in Namlong Village, China.

The Traditional House of the Future is an architectural prototype that is part of the village renovation plan of the Nanlonggu Village Government in Guizhou Province, China.

This project embodies a rapidly changing lifestyle and is at the intersection of tradition and modernity, rural and urban.

The Traditional House of the Future proposes strategies to revitalise vernacular housing and recycle building materials, tracking how self-builders adapt their homes to meet the challenges of urbanisation in rural China.

Combining robotic on-site printing and traditional woodworking techniques, the Traditional House of the Future attempts to explore how new technologies can become catalysts for social potential, enhancing local culture and the practice of cultural architecture.

This project has been shortlisted in the heritage project category of Dezeen Awards China 2023.
