Cocoon Studio Shanghai has redesigned the interiors for the Cloud Retreat Hotel in Ganzhou, China.

The Cloud Retreat Hotel is located in Yuzitanwei, Ganzhou next to a century-old Hakka enclosed house.

This project uses contemporary spatial forms and material colours to reconstruct the living memory of Hakka houses.

"Through geometric spatial processing and diverse place collage and overlap, the banal shape of hotel rooms is broken and a living experience that links local memory and contemporary quality is created," said Cocoon Studio Shanghai.

The need for interior design is reflected in how to create a distinctive and recognisable internal space within the framework of a unified architectural pattern and at the same time, appropriately integrate the leisure experience of B&B culture and tourism with local customs and characteristics.

This project has been shortlisted in the hotel and short-stay interior category of Dezeen Awards China 2023.
