Dialogue with Nature: Commune Store

Atelier Global has renovated the Dialogue with Nature: Commune Store, a village beacon in Mount Wuyi, reviving rice culture, enhancing rural development and forging a sustainable future where nature and community thrive together in Fujian, China.
Located in the "most beautiful village of Northern Fujian", according to Atelier Global, the Commune Store is a revamped abandoned rural primary school, embraced by mountains, bamboo forests and terraced rice paddies.

Designed with a focus on rejuvenating rice culture and revitalising the village, this project explores the realm of natural architecture that fosters a postmodern lifestyle for new farmers.

The architecture endeavours to embody respect and responsiveness to nature, the site and daily life, transforming into a spiritual oasis that embodies authenticity and self-discovery.

The ethos of "working at sunrise and resting at sunset," combined with swimming after farming as a means of relaxation for the owner and guests, offers a unique experience for visitors.

This project has been shortlisted in the mixed-use project category of Dezeen Awards China 2025.
