Qianhai Guiwan Park
Field Operations has designed the Guiwan Park is the first "water finger" to be built for Qianhai Water City, an innovative and sustainable new city in China.
Qianhai's Guiwan Park is the first of five "water fingers" built as part of the master plan Field Operations designed for Qianhai Water City in 2010.
Guiwan Park provides not only a world-class urban park that supports the new city centre, but also large-scale green infrastructure for stormwater management and flood and tidal protection.
With suitable planting species, these terraces are designed to provide vibrant public open spaces while also supporting a variety of habitat recovery.
Inspired by Guiwan Park's location – a gateway to the new district and where the city and the bay meet – the project's hyper-nature concept is one that fuses natural processes with an urban energy web.
By synchronising a pedestrian network, canopy system, wetlands, the canal and soft surfaces, Guiwan Park cultivates overlapping benefits between the park and the city, allowing a complex natural ecology to activate the surrounding urban areas.
This project has been shortlisted in the landscape and urban design category of Dezeen Awards China 2025.
