Jing Stay
Atelier d’More has designed Jing Stay, a heritage-inspired boutique B&B renovation in Huairou Village near Beijing, China.
Jing Stay, nestled in Beijing's Huairou District, transforms two crumbling northern vernacular houses into a boutique bed and breakfast.
With an ultra-low budget, the design unifies the fragmented street facade by crowning the house with a grey roof, extending fluid curves into the courtyard. The communal area features tent-like ceilings to dissolve spatial divisions from original beams, while new windows visually connect both courtyards.
Preserved stone walls converse with new white surfaces and a limestone soaking pool blurs indoor-outdoor boundaries. The rear garden, inspired by the 'round sky, square earth' concept, frames the sky with an arced roof, while dusk lighting creates a meditative ambience.
In addition, the roofline echoes distant mountains, with parapets abstractly mirroring their contours, allowing the architecture to recede into the village fabric.
This project reinterprets rural memory through a symbiosis of old and new, fostering a dialogue with nature and achieving a poetic rebirth.
This project has been shortlisted in the rebirth project category of Dezeen Awards China 2025.
