Contemporary Tea Pavilion
Bufen Atelier has designed the interiors of the Contemporary Tea Pavilion in Beijing, China.
The goal of this project was to "create a pure space in which the consumer could fully immerse themselves in the tea experience," said Bufen Atelier.
The space, limited in itself, is a succession of closures and openings without defined perimeters. The large side window, once completely open, transforms the indoor space into an outdoor garden.
Hand-made brick tiles, cement and yellow terrazzo aim to express the natural properties of the final product, all illuminated by a metal grid ceiling that gives the entire space a public lantern effect.
The external area of the pavilion also defines the corner of the urban context, where roads and industrial pipes come into collision with a small yellow platform that welcomes visitors into it.
"The location is strategic: a key entry point into the 798 art district, which gave us the opportunity and the responsibility to redefine a real corner of the city – a challenge that we enthusiastically accepted from the beginning," added Bufen Atelier.
This project has been shortlisted in the bar and cafe interior category of Dezeen Awards China 2025.
