Cheng Chung Design (CCD) has designed the interiors of the Mandarin Oriental Qianmen Beijing, a meticulously restored hotel in the historical city of Beijing, China.
Nestled within Beijing's historic Caochang Hutong, this hotel thoughtfully revitalises over 600 years of folk culture by preserving original courtyard architecture and urban fabric.
The project design responds to a social need to rejuvenate historic neighbourhoods respectfully, conserving cultural identity while enhancing residents' living environment.
Mandarin Oriental Qianmen Beijing's interiors innovatively reinterprets heritage conservation by blending authentic restoration with contemporary artistry – embracing traditional Hutong forms while introducing elements like an enamel flower screen and calligraphy-inspired works that enliven spiritual essence.
As a result, the hotel intertwines traditional aesthetics with modern craftsmanship, fostering a serene cultural dialogue that honours heritage while enhancing community and environment.
This project has been shortlisted in the hotel and short stay interior category of Dezeen Awards China 2025.
