Winner: Home interior of the year 2025. Wei Yi International Design Associates has designed the interiors of 12M, a single-story residential space in Taipei, Taiwan.
Within a 250 square metre living space container, the needs of the occupants extend beyond merely fulfilling basic functional requirements; therefore, "it was equally important that the space achieves a sense of resonance and balance between mind, body and spirit," said Wei Yi.
This emphasis profoundly influenced the planning process, particularly in terms of spatial layout and circulation, as well as the integration and selection of materials and colours.
"In the 12M planning process, how to achieve a sense of tranquillity laced with solitude – mirroring the resident's acceptance of life's imperfections with a sense of serenity – becomes a crucial exploration," added Wei Yi.
This exploration proceeds along two main avenues: spatial planning and the integration of materials and tones.
The relationship across the overall elevations is articulated through nodal composition, employing theories of separation and detail, connectivity, fragmentation and wholeness, as well as mass and corners – seeking to create a harmonious interplay between mass composition and joint consideration.
