Competition overview
This commission aims to create site-specific, budget-appropriate and meaningful permanent public artworks at Springfield Village, a new mixed-use neighbourhood in Tooting Bec, London.
The artworks must enhance local character and establish a cultural legacy. They may explore themes of mental wellbeing and the destigmatisation of mental health while reflecting on the history and future of the Springfield Village site.
There is also potential to reuse and recycle materials following demolition. The appointed artist or creative practitioner(s) must deliver an engagement process – during design or fabrication – with local stakeholders to ensure the artworks reflect local identity and embody collaborative values.

Eligibility and judging criteria
Applicants must be based in the UK, be eligible to work in the UK and hold valid public liability insurance.
Individuals with ties to Wandsworth are desirable.
Submissions will be evaluated based on how well they respond to the commission objectives, including:
- Reflecting the lives and voices of residents and the NHS Trust community
- Resonating with themes of mental health and wellbeing
- Creating inclusive engagement opportunities
- Building a lasting cultural legacy
- Enhancing the public realm through accessible, positive and therapeutic experiences
- Show a clear understanding of the context, site and objectives
- Present a feasible delivery plan within budget and timeframe
- Demonstrate artistic quality, originality and community value

Submission deadlines
Applicants must submit their proposal by midnight on 25 January 2026.
The selected practitioner will be appointed in February 2026, with installation to follow in late 2026 to early 2027.
