Product designer Xiangzhi Zhao presents Material as a Carrier of Time, an exhibition on display during London Craft Week 2026.

The exhibition explores historic and archival materials, influenced by a collapsed tree in London that was damaged by pest infestation.

After inspecting the wood from the tree, Zhao has sourced historical documents, found objects and site-specific records relating to the tree and its collapse.

Informed by these materials, the designer has created design objects made from wood, ceramic, silver and glass.

Material as a Carrier of Time takes place from 15 to 16 May 2026 at Dr Johnson’s House, 17 Gough Square, London EC4A 3DE, UK.
