Outpost Office has created a colourful mural landscape to highlight long-term use of communal city space.
Installed as part of the 2021 Chicago Architecture Biennial, Cover the Grid superimposes a dynamic mural landscape on a treasured but timeworn public court. The temporary installation is not a final park design but rather a prototype that stands as a graphic testbed for experimentation as the neighbourhood considers the long-term future of its communal space.
The project transforms vacant territory into a landscape for civic gathering through the modest act of painting. Cover the Grid leverages cutting-edge tools, low-impact methods, and community engagement to create a dynamic new public space with modest resources and a low ecological footprint.
