Winner: Workplace project of the year 2023. KRIS YAO | ARTECH has designed the Hainan Energy Trading Building in Haikou City, China.

The Hainan Energy Exchange Building echoes the Yankuang Group's spirit of creating green energy.

Every four floors are staggered with high-ceiling sky gardens connected to the atrium and the open ground floor forms a natural ventilation circulation that creates a pleasant micro-space climate.

The design uses large diagonal braces to transfer load-bearing, retaining the integrity of the sky garden space without being disturbed by structural columns – while the energy-efficient double-layer curtain wall provides sweeping views and meets the need for natural lighting.

"This project is based on the three aspects of region, culture and sustainability and uses ecological and environmentally friendly innovative technologies to create a landmark building with both regional characteristics and cultural significance," said KRIS YAO | ARTECH.
