Courtyard House
TEDO has designed Courtyard House, a country residential house in Tonglu, Hangzhou, China.
For this project, the client shared that their family originally had a courtyard house on the land, but over time, due to historical changes, the property was divided and both the courtyard and house gradually disappeared.
Therefore, the goal of Courtyard House was to maximise the use of the site while bringing nature indoors.
"We created a central courtyard that connects to every room, allowing people to interact with nature freely," said TEDO.
"As the members of the family move between connecting with nature and seeking shelter, they find a peaceful balance, creating that perfect mix of openness and protection we designed to feel like a safe, calming retreat."
This project has been shortlisted in the residential project category of Dezeen Awards China 2025.
