Avalon Collective has designed the interiors of the Four Seasons Hangzhou Centre, an urban hotel in Hangzhou, China.
Nestled in the heart of Hangzhou, home to the Grand Canal and West Lake, Four Seasons Hangzhou City Centre invites guests on a journey through water.
Inspired by the city's architecture, literature, art and craftsmanship, the design blends cultural depth with modern elegance, offering a sanctuary for both business and leisure.
"More than a place to stay, Four Seasons Hangzhou City Centre is a poetic, immersive experience, where weekday meetings and weekend retreats flow effortlessly together," said Avalon Collective.
"After several rounds of discussion with the client and operators, the concept of a 'Journey by the Water' was developed and approved."
This narrative offers a fresh and authentic interpretation of Hangzhou's relationship with its waterways, but through an urban lens suited to the city centre location.
Natural materials and artisanal details are combined with innovative construction methods to create layered, textured spaces that evoke water's fluidity and the city's dynamic rhythm.
This project has been shortlisted in the hotel and short stay interior category of Dezeen Awards China 2025.
