Inebi
Metagram has designed the interiors of the Inebi, a new concept Japanese restaurant centred around a focus on rice in Hong Kong.
Intended to pay homage to the roots of rice in Japanese cuisine, Inebi's design expresses rice through symbolic acrylic rice 'grains' integrated into a traditional Japanese architecture-inspired timber lattice system.
The layout, modular and inspired by the 'engawa' (the Japanese verandah) articulates several seating modes throughout the space creating a dynamic range of seating and moods in a small and unusually shaped space.
Inebi uses uncomplicated, locally available materials in innovative, highly resolved arrangements to create an entirely immersive, distinctively Japanese-inspired dining experience, whilst exploring innovative dining concepts and integrating this into the architecture.
Perfectly balanced with lighting design by renowned LightOrigin Studio, this project was a perfect balance of input from the client, architectural design and lighting design to create an inspired space.
This project has been shortlisted in the restaurant interior category of Dezeen Awards China 2025.
