Other Matter Architectural Surfaces

Other Matter has designed the architectural surfaces for Aēsop Hainan, proposing a regenerative alternative to extractive finishes.

Other Matter Architectural Surfaces are designed using patent-pending technology to offer a circular, petrochemical-free alternative to conventional finishes.

Produced in Australia, the material is available as a removable, adhesive-free film or as a sealed, permanent finish applied directly to flat substrates.

Both formats feature fluid-cast patterning that evokes the depth of marble – without the extractive impact or carbon intensity.

From rolled interchangeable films to flat-packed panels, these surfaces replace vinyl, resin and stone with a regenerative material language, demonstrating that sustainable design can be atmospheric, scalable and architecturally expressive.

This project has been shortlisted in the material innovation category of Dezeen Awards China 2025.
