Competition overview
The competition aims to create a contemporary, flexible, and sustainable cultural facility – Limassol Arts Centre – as a strategic pillar of the Limassol Cultural Strategy 2024 to 2034.
The objective is to create a contemporary cultural facility that meaningfully responds to the actual needs of the artistic community, expressing a clear, timeless, and recognisable architectural identity.
It is envisioned as an open, accessible, and dynamic organisation capable of supporting the full spectrum of cultural activity, from production, research, experimentation, and collaboration to artist residencies, digital arts, and public participation.
To meet these needs, the building program of the centre includes social and public spaces, performance and event venues, spaces for learning, education, and creative production, artist residency facilities, as well as the necessary infrastructure for administration, management, auxiliary facilities, vehicle access, and parking.
The Municipality of Limassol seeks to secure the best overall proposal from an urban planning, architectural, environmental, economic, and functional perspective, appointing the winner of the competition to complete the design and implement the project.
The centre is not intended to operate as a conventional event venue, but as a living organisation where the creative process is visible and accessible to all.
By incorporating the principles of universal design, full accessibility and inclusion for every social group will be ensured, while simultaneously safeguarding the long-term environmental and economic sustainability of the building with low operational costs.

The competition is open to architects holding a valid professional licence who are registered with the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ETEK) or registered in any EU/EEA member state, WTO GPA signatory country, or country with EU/Cyprus association agreements.
