The Interior Design BA (Hons) course at Bath Spa University equips students with traditional drawing skills combined with industry-standard software knowledge.
Our BA (Hons) Interior Design course focuses on existing buildings and finding Innovative ways to use them. We are based at the Locksbrook Campus which is a grade 2 listed building built in 1976 by Nicolas Grimshaw for Herman Miller, it sets a stunning backdrop to practice interior design and embodies our true Interior design course ethos. (RIBA South West Award 2021 and RIBA National Award 2021).
Through many precedent site visits, observational exercises and design tasks, you will quickly learn how to read and design an existing space.
We introduce students to orthographic drawing and model making, this is practiced using traditional drawing board techniques - enabling a good understanding of scale. In tandem we provide workshops in key industry relevant software such as Indesign, AutoCAD, Revit and photoshop.
We explore the experiential qualities of the spaces we use every day - lighting, environment, materials, finishes - and how these are used to create mood or ambiance. Sustainability and the use of honest materials is at the core of everything we do - buildings and materials that can be readily repurposed or recycled.
You'll apply your design skills to a broad range of studio focused projects , such as hotels, restaurants, exhibitions, retail and shop fitting, offices and commercial premises, museums, and galleries.
You will be further informed by industry practitioners, through a series of guest interior designer talks enlightening you to the extensive bandwidth of job opportunities available to you when you graduate - to further build on your professional development the course also has an optional industry year out.
