The Master of Urban Design programme at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology helps students to expand their knowledge with research-based design studios exploring innovative futures for the world's cities.

RMIT University’s Master of Urban Design is a two-year degree taught face-to-face in small studio groups at the award-winning RMIT Design Hub in the centre of Melbourne. The program is open to graduates with a Bachelor's degree in Architectural Design, Landscape Architecture or an equivalent design-related discipline.

Applicants with a Master of Architecture or Master of Landscape Architecture are eligible for advanced-level entry into Year 2 of the program, completing the Master of Urban Design in 1 year of full-time study.

The program is primarily focused on design, with project-based design studios forming the majority of the course load. Design studio is supported by a series of specialist courses that develop advanced knowledge and skills in computer modelling and representation, urban history and theory, professional practice and sustainability. The program includes transdisciplinary electives that can be taken in the School of Global and Urban Studies and the School of Property, Construction and Project Management.

The Master of Urban Design provides opportunities to work with international urban thought leaders in Australia and Asia, through research-based studios examining the challenges facing future cities. The program provides an opportunity for architecture and design graduates to leverage their design skillset and broaden the scope of their work – engaging with urban informatics, planning, procurement, economics, governance and policy.
