The Multidisciplinary Innovation MA/MSc (MDI) course at Northumbria University is all about using design-led innovation and entrepreneurial leadership to make the world a better place.

Our truly multidisciplinary course supports students to learn what responsible innovation is, and how to become responsible innovators themselves.

Students learn in a creative environment through live projects across the whole year, working with real-world clients ranging from start-up charities to Fortune 500 Corporations to address challenges that really matter to our partners and to wider society.

Creativity and experimentation are at the core of MDI and we have created a course where learning through "brave failure" is nurtured and celebrated.

Because meaningful innovation happens when different disciplines work together, students from any discipline and background can join the course.

Students learn to work collaboratively with fellow students with a wide range of backgrounds, knowledge, skills and experiences.

They are supported and coached as they work together to devise creative solutions using strategic innovation theories, methods and tools to address complex challenges to current social, organisational and commercial issues.

Students have previously worked with organisations including multinationals like Mars, Unilever and Realme, local start-ups and national charities.

Such close working with external partners enables students to develop high-level employability skills combined with creative confidence and entrepreneurial agency.

Previous graduates from this course have secured senior roles with large organisations, started their own businesses and charities or gone on to PhD study and academic careers.

Applications to this course have now closed.
