The ResponseAble Futures course at LUCA School of Arts encourages students to explore design with consideration of people, care and inclusion, with opportunities for real-world projects and industry insights.

ResFut is an M(F)A programme in Design and Health Care. An Erasmus Mundus Joint Master (EMJM), the ResponseAble Futures programme is designed for European and international design graduates with a passion for people, care access and inclusion.

Located at the intersection of making (product, industrial, graphic, service, game and interface design), design research and social innovation, the programme accepts only highly motivated students.

As an EMJM, students are embedded in three distinct care contexts in Belgium, Portugal, and the UK. This innovative curriculum includes design symposia, Care Topic Masterclasses with experts, real-world project-based coursework, field trips and the possibility of summer internships.

Alumni are future-forward designers and responsible citizens who graduate with a strong network across sectors. Whether leading equity-driven startups, advising on policy, or working for global NGOs, ResFut graduates pioneer the agenda of inclusive and accessible care in Europe and around the world.

What will I learn during this course?

What are the requirements?

– Bachelor's degree in design that corresponds to Level 6 of the European Qualifications Framework (EQF)
– The degree should grant access to second-cycle programmes (Master's level, EQF Level 7)

What facilities and resources are available?

– High-end maker-spaces featuring CNC milling, laser cutting and 3D-printing
– Dedicated studios for traditional craft in wood and metal

What career prospects can I expect upon graduating?

Graduates of the ResFut programme are uniquely prepared to lead as designers, policy advisors, or design researchers within global healthcare organisations, design studios focusing on healthcare products, governmental bodies and NGOs.

Next to this, graduates have the entrepreneurial foundation to launch their own health-tech startups or pursue advanced PhD research, bridging the gap between creative innovation and systemic social change.
