Maarten Baas 101 chairs for Lensvelt upholstered in different colours

Maarten Baas 101 Chair by Lensvelt

Dezeen Showroom: Dutch designer Maarten Baas has created the Maarten Baas 101 Chair for furniture brand Lensvelt, which is characterised by its irregularly shaped back.

The Maarten Baas 101 Chair is available with or without armrests and with eight different backrest options – each shaped like it was drawn by hand.

"Through a clever technical application, each chair seems to have its own character, a face," said Lensvelt.

"Craftsmanship is an essential part of my creative freedom for me," Baas added. "Something has to look exactly as I had it in my head."

The chair consists of a powder-coated steel frame with a padded plywood seat and backrest.

Designed to suit both domestic and hospitality settings, the Maarten Baas 101 Chair can be upholstered in a multitude of fabrics with the added option to finish the steel frame in a matching colour.

The chair was presented at Salone del Mobile in 2017, where it won the Milano Design Award for Best Concept.
