This exhibition is the Vitra Design Museum's first major overview of post-war design in east and west Germany during the Cold War era divide.

German Design 1949–1989: Two Countries, One History displays a selection of design that explores ideological and aesthetic differences as well as parallels and interrelations between east and west. The selection includes iconic pieces of furniture and lamps as well as graphic, industrial, and interior design.

The exhibition also highlights the role of design schools and the Bauhaus legacy as well as looking at protagonists such as Egon Eiermann and Rudolf Horn.

German Design 1949–1989: Two Countries, One History takes place until 5 September 2021 at Vitra Design Museum, Charles-Eames-Straße 2, 79576 Weil am Rhein, Germany.
