London's Japan House exhibits The Craft of Carpentry: Drawing Life from Japan's Forests, an exhibition celebrating the country's historic craft.

The organisation's Spring exhibition explores how the Japanese craft is rooted in a profound respect for trees and nature. It outlines how the technique has enabled the country's shrines and temples to withstand centuries of extreme weather.

The exhibition has three parts. It focuses on kigumi – wood joinery; dōmiya daiku –temple and shrine carpenters; and sukiya daiku – teahouse carpenters.

It includes a full-scale Japanese teahouse, original kigumi wood joints and visitors also have a chance to smell a variety of Japanese trees.

The Craft of Carpentry: Drawing Life from Japan's Forests takes place at Japan House, 101-111 Kensington High Street, London W8 5SA from 12 March to 6 July 2025.
