Solar Machines is a conference exploring "solar architecture", outlining how building and design projects have developed from sun observation points to environmentally conscious spaces.

The discussions address material choices and the use of solar panels through case studies.

Alongside the conference is an exhibition with participation from architecture practice Foster + Partners, and the launch of The Solar Machines, a book with contributions from firms Renzo Piano Building Workshop and Shigeru Ban Architects and architects Jean de Gastines, Thomas Herzog and Roland Krippner.

Solar Machines takes place from 2:30pm to 8:00pm on 29 October 2026 at SUPSI Campus Mendrisio, Via Flora Ruchat-Roncati 15, 6850 Mendrisio, Switzerland
