Design Miami update: Rap star Kanye West has bought a number of Campana Brothers pieces for his new Manhattan apartment. West spoke to us at Design Miami, which he visited last week.

The apartment is being designed by austere minimalist architect Claudio Silvestrin, but West has not yet told Silvestrin that he plans to introduce furniture by the flamboyant Brazilian designers. “He’ll freak,” West told us.

West is seriously interested contemporary design. Besides the Campanas, West told us his favourite designers and brands include B&B Italia, Marc Newson and Maarten Baas.

Dezeen introduced Baas to West at a dinner in honour of Newson - who is this year’s Design Miami Designer of the Year - at the home of Miami Design District owner Craig Robins.

Much to Baas’ surprise, West announced that he already owned several Baas designs, including pieces from Baas’ Smoke range of burnt furniture.

San Francisco designer Yves Behar is also a good friend of West’s, and is designing a chandelier for the apartment.

Wow, I had not idea Kanye was such a design-fan. Cool.

Oh and congrats on the new blog, Marcus. Have always loved your work with icon.

  2. Ryno Says:

I actually saw the pictures of his new crib earlier today and it looks kind of small for a guy with the kind of money Kanye West has.

I guess not everybody needs 5000+ square feet to enjoy life!
