Venice Architecture Biennale: Dutch architects NL present this series of images in the Italian Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale.

Fly United - go with the flow!

Google Forest - the sea levels rise. Less land is available. How can we increase the capacity of our cities?

Flower Power - can we move from what the Dutch call “pollution of the horizon” to “heroic” configurations? Is it possible to create an Eiffel Tower, Atomium or St Louis Arch dedicated to the production of environmentally friendly energy?

Trashberg - the currents of the Pacific Ocean tend to accumulate floating plastic in a confined area. An immense archipelago of trash comes into being, a bouyant island the size of Spain, France and Italy combined.

Minimum Speed 200 kh/h - the products that surround us often have unused capacities, we only use a fraction of their potential.

Phantom Pain - in the capitals of Europe 18 square kms of office space is left unused. This equals more than half of Manhattan. Or a ghost town of 50 twin towers.

Cruise City, City Cruise - cruise ships in theory are “parasites” in every port they call on. Can we introduce a form of reciprocity? Can we imagine a two-way connection between ships and the city?

whether one can see an interest level that environmental problems we face today is in any area of our lives and evil utilization of resources. however I think the way to show this problem does see it somewhat amusing and not taken fully into account. without taking into account the text and photos one would believe that photographs are only fun when they are not, although perhaps that is how you want to go into the forefront of people through the ironic, it is at the discretion of each . beyond everything is much more valid to touch these issues and not others as the city of mad! …

Some really fun, imaginative illustrations!
The “Flower Power” wind turbines would certainly make wind energy a lot more aesthetically appealling for a lot of people.
The interstate highway loop reminds me of playing with plastic Hot Wheels tracks when I was a kid. Anyone remember Hot Wheels?
And the “Ghost Town” of World Trade Center towers brings to mind the Urban Monads portrayed in Robert Silverberg’s sci-fi novel, “The World Inside.”

beautiful…-Dubai thing.
September 14th, 2008 at 1:07 pm
As a resident of Dubai, let me just say that the third picture (’Google forest’) is much, much less zany than what they probably have planned for the actual place!

It is not easy to reply with words as original as these images!
At least these images do open a part of my mind that until now was never invited to strech into such delightful corners and at the same time they create bodyly sensations such as an enormous inner smile and an intimate feeling of awe, abundance and recognition.
More. We want more….
