Milan 09: young designers Riccardo Nannini, Domenico Orefice and Emanuele Pizzolorusso present a waste paper basket made of recycled paper at exhibition Dismettiamola! in Milan this week.

The bin consists of fifty pleated-paper containers, nesting inside one another.

When the top container is full it can be removed and disposed of, leaving the next one lining the bin.

FABRIANO
WASTE PAPER BIN
(Prototype)
Designed by Riccardo Nannini + Domenico Orefice + Emanuele Pizzolorusso.
Fabriano is a basket made entirely of recycled paper. The thin layers consist of 50 disposable bags and when the bin is full you just have to extract the bag and throw it away, the layer beneath is ready to collect more paper. The shape of a “muffin cup” is easy to produce and allows to obtain the shape of a classic office bin, as well as it gives a personality to it.

Love it. so simple. so efficient. perhaps there is some way of coating the paper with a biodegradable resin so a kitchen waste bin could be produced also.

This is great. So simple. Yet so well-thought.

Nice idea but have some point for discussion:
- why recycled paper cups to collect paper. Isn’t it better to have a permanent
paper basket instead of disposable bags to collect your waste paper and then throw it in a bigger container? a waste of recycled paper?
- in a office lots of paper is getting thrown away. A paperbin this shape wit fumbled up paper will be full after half a day. A paper bin where you can put the sheets on a pile is probably better.
- So with this bin that means a office has to buy new wastepaperbins after 25 days

Its a very nice idea, but it doesn’t completely make sense to me. It is much more environmentally friendly to use just a regular paper basket do dispose of paper, rather than wasting more paper in the process, or even recycle said waste paper, as many offices and universities do. To toss something you would need a liner in the can for (lunch remnants, mostly empty coffee cup, anything moist), I don’t see how this would work without ruining the entire rubbish bin, unless the interior of the cups were waxed or coated.

They should have baked the ginormous muffins.

I’m with Jelle, this is wastefull. can anyone seriously think that any more on time use objects are a good idea? if the bin was made of recycled materials, could be recycled at the end of life (perhaps a few years) and be durable while in use then maybe it would fly, nice try, but this was a “wastefull” exercise…

I think most of people use plastic bags to collect paper, and get rid of it well they throw paper away. This basket doesn’t add any waste and makes the process much more confortable.
Good idea and very good looking.

GENIALE!!!

This is a lovely design on the surface, but I’m afraid bits of moisture from a soda can or a take out container would soak into the paper and ruin the esthetic with greasy stains through all of the layers and/or weaken the paper so it would tear. Admittedly, I am a ‘function over form’ person.

Isn’t this supposed to be a basket to collect paper? Why would anyone throw a soda can in it?
