Hakes presents Mojito, a shoe that has no sole and no upper but instead supports the foot on a continuous loop.

The shoes were first shown on Dezeen in 2009 when they were prototypes and due to the response to our story they’re now in production.

You can read much more about the Mojito shoes in our stories here and here.

The Mojito shoe is also featured in the Dezeen Book of Ideas, which you can order online or buy in person at Dezeen Space.

Congratulation on getting there! Have been following this project since its inception (or at least the first time Dezeen blogged about it). Great work.

  • My sisters would worship me forever if I gifted them these shoes! :D *evil grin*

  • xtiaan

awesome design, but Im getting blisters just looking at them

  • I would like to see the X-ray of user´s (addicted to such torturing tools) feet,
after a longer period of wearing …

  • Nour

    Can we buy those online?

  • Warrelis

Great looking shoes. And glad to see how this design can actually be realized from the initial concept. Well done!

  • tanyatelford

oh my gosh, they made it, how about that, yes congratualtions, from spec drawing and propotype to product.

  • Greenish

So good to see images of the shoes on ACTUAL FEET – great article and i want a pair quite bad now.

Just goes to show women love flamboyant shoes and pain….awesome product though.

  • BOB

I think Julian Hakes and Birckenstock could learn something from eachother.

  • Hi Bob – we have a full sandal last at the front of the shoe which gives a very natural shape and support. In simple terms think of it like an elevated 'flipflop' rather than a normal high heel.

All the people who have tried the shoes say 'surprisingly comfortable' as it looks extreme but comfort was designed in from day 01 – not simply an after thought.
