Plantation collection by Alexander Lotersztain

Brisbane designer Alexander Lotersztain of Derlot has designed a range of furniture called Plantation.

The furniture is made of marine-grade plywood from plantation forests and aims to make efficient use of each plywood sheet.

Waste material is made into egg cups that are given away with each product.

The collection includes an armchair, lounger and rocking chair, and three tables.

Plantation collection by Alexander Lotersztain

Designer Alexander Lotersztain has extended his Plantation Collection to include a table range for his derlot brand.
The collection features an armchair, lounger and rocking chair, now including a range of three types of table sizes 1000 x 1000, 2400 x 1000, 3600 x 1100 and 720h (natural or black stain finish).

The entire collection is made out of plantation forest marine grade plywood intended to expose the inherent beauty of the material.

The design of the items focused on the efficient use of the plywood sheet. In the case of the armchair: produce 4 chairs out of one single sheet of plywood 2400 x 1200 with an aprox. 6% waste. The waste has also been used to create egg cups given away with every item, thus reducing the waste to 2% and giving a gift out of what, if not, would be waste on the way to landfill.

The “knot” detail is featured throughout the collection as a representation of the nature of trees and the connection with the material and its origin.
The tables were designed to be fully flat packed for shipping purposes, whilst assembly requires the simple use of an allen key.
