Dezeen Magazine

One year ago

One year ago this week, stories on Dezeen included a space ship, an office and its contents painted entirely in white, and planks of wood made from recycled newspaper.

The space ship was designed for French car manufacturer Citroën by Ora-Ïto and was presented in Milan. Our series of movies from Ventura Lambrate in Milan continued with Vij5 talking about Newspaper Wood, a wood-like material made from recycled newspapers, and Philippe Malouin explaining his rug made from chain mail.

Tony Fretton, MVRDV, Zaha Hadid and David Chipperfield were among the winners of last year's RIBA awards, announced just as Chipperfield completed The Hepworth Wakefield gallery.

Meanwhile Londoner Dominic Wilcox painstakingly applied white paint to every surface of every object in an office awaiting demolition and French designer Mathieu Lehanneur added a layered marble podium to a Romanesque church.
