London Design Festival 2014: east London design brand Vitamin has unveiled its latest range of products at designjunction (+ slideshow).
Vitamin's new furniture, lighting and accessories were all created with artisanal practices in mind.
"The 2014 collection has been about bringing together a longstanding desire to create simple, functional and original pieces of design, but with the influences gained from working closely with our smaller scale manufacturers which offer craftsmanship, quality and passion over the constraints of mass production," Vitamin director Andy Vernall told Dezeen.
The Ninety stool is a three-legged ash stool available in a range of coloured stains and a natural finish. Angled cross bars between the legs enable the user to choose the most ergonomic foot height for them. The stool is made using computer numerically controlled (CNC) milling and then constructed and finished by hand.
Slip-cast and hand constructed in Stoke-on-Trent, The K Lamp consists of two ceramic parts. A hood, balanced on a base, is glazed on the inside to reflect light into the room. An LED bulb enables the lamp to be used as both an ambient and a task lamp, available in earthenware and terracotta – the latter with a range of coloured bases.
The Eclipse side table features a circular tray-like table top with one edge sliced off so it can sit flush to a wall, making it a useful bedside table as well as a side table for living spaces. The CNC-milled ash or oak top sits on a powder-coated spun steel base available in a range of colours.
Designed to complement the Eclipse table, the Eclipse mirror features a circular powder-coated spun steel frame, available in a range of colours, with a circular piece of mirrored glass inside that has had one edge sliced off, much like the top of the table. It can be hung in any orientation depending on where the user would like the "slice" to be.
The hand-turned Cone hooks, inspired by the spinning top, appear to have been spun against a wall and have come to rest on their sides. The hooks are available in natural oak and stained ash in three sizes.
The Core range comprises three storage jars and a salt and pepper mill – all hand turned. Each product is manufactured in oak and features a contrasting stained lid, available in a range of colours, that is revealed by a small return on the front surface. An airtight lock is created between the lid and the body with a rubber o-ring.
Finally, the Bellow salt and pepper mills are hand turned in ash, featuring a concertina effect in either a black or white finish to separate the grinder from the base of the mill.
"I hope people consider the range to be contemporary but also able to stand the test of time, something that will be bought and cherished for many years as well as fitting with current interior trends," said Vernall.
Vitamin's new collection launches at designjunction as part of the London Design Festival, which is taking place across the British capital until 21 September.
