Tokujin Yoshioka's V watch for Issey Miyake is a rippled metal bracelet

Stripy reflections are created by indentations in the metal strap of Japanese designer Tokujin Yoshioka's watch for Issey Miyake.

The latest watch by Yoshioka – a long-time collaborator with the Japanese fashion house – is designed for both men and women.

At first glance, the stainless-steel strap and casing appear to be made from a continuous band of extruded rippled metal.

However the band is actually formed from a series of links, each with a slightly different profile making it reflect light as stripes.

"The vision comes from a naturally stylish bracelet created by cutting a tube with a basic pattern into circular slices," said a statement from Issey Miyake.

"Started from the design of a watch bracelet, the concept breaks from the convention of watch-and-band configuration," the brand said. "The result is the first 'bracelet watch' of its kind."

A small square face is set into the case and covered with mineral glass. Hour increments are arranged around the debossed edge of the glass, while tiny hands mark out the time.

The watch features an analogue quartz movement and comes in three silvery shades. Available from July 2015, V is packaged in a case that replicates the style of the strap.

"The package is made with the same concept, by cutting an aluminium cylinder with a similar pattern as the watch," said the brand. "It can serve as an artful watchcase or as a container for small items."

Yoshioka has collaborated with Issey Miyake for over 20 years. His previous watch designs for the brand include a transparent bangle embedded with a mirrored face.

The Tokyo-based designer has also worked on a series of store interiors for the fashion brand, including boutiques and flagships in London and Tokyo, as well as the tables and chairs to furnish them.

V is the 14th watch created for Issey Miyake by an internationally renowned designer. Jasper Morrison, Naoto Fukasawa and Ross Lovegrove have all produced models for the brand in the past.
