This pavilion created for the Lisbon Architecture Triennale mishmashes the architectural styles of three studios to question authorship.
The studios created the pavilion named The Form Of Form by raiding the back catalogue of each other's work.
The structure features mono-pitched, vaulted and cubic forms that echo the work of American studio Johnston Marklee, Portuguese office Nuno Brandão Costa and Belgian practice Office Kersten Geers David Van Severen (Office KGDVS).
"Architects are authors," said a statement from Triennale curators Diogo Seixas Lopes and André Tavares.
"Here they dared to choose spaces from projects of their own and each other, with overlapping authorship, to become makers of a collective project to host and accommodate the imagery network that inhabits the form."
The structure has a steel frame and white plasterboard walls, which are punctured by a series of rectangular openings.
They reference elements of Johnson Marklee's Vault House and View House; Buggenhout, Shor and Ordos from Office KGDVS; and Little House, House H1, Viriato Head Office, and Padrão School from Nuno Brandão Costa.
"In this exhibition, which proceeds from a potentially infinite repository, three architects build a dialogue that challenges notions of authorship and the limits of form," said the curators.
"Exploring notions of authorship and the visual universe originating from architectural form, this temporary construction is a meeting space to demonstrate the meaning of form in the past, present and future."
A4 images are pasted to the inner walls of the structure. Taken from the Socks Studio website – an archive run by architects Fosco Lucarelli and Mariabruna Fabrizi – the images are all copies of works of art or architecture.
"Everything which is here is a reproduction of something," said Fabrizi at the opening of the Triennale on 5 October 2016.
"In a way we can forget style and everything that will become obsolete about architecture, and what [will remain] will become permanent and somehow we can discover common knowledge," she added.
Form Is Form is one of three primary exhibitions that are part of this year's Lisbon Architecture Triennale, which shares the same theme. The city-wide architecture festival continues until 12 December 2016.
The Form Of Form pavilion was primarily curated by Diogo Seixas Lopes, who died earlier this year.
Installed beside the Amanda Levete-designed MAAT gallery on Lisbon's waterfront in Belem, it has attracted masses on its opening days.
